The Eleventh Hour

solder giving ukulele to child
Purim in Israel, Friends of Zion museum. One of the workers dressed as a British soldier in honor of Orde Wingate, a Zionist captain in the British Mandate Army. This worker said he thought a ukulele was more appropriate for the day than a gun.

I’ve wielded this song-sword many times. Doubt and Fear love to whisper in my ear and torment me, “He doesn’t really have a plan for you. Look how much time you’ve already wasted. You’re on your own. He holds you in the palm of His hand?  Hah!  You need to let go of those foolish notions of yours. You’re wasting your time and your life. You’re nothing but a failure.”

I think, I pray, I remember my vow, and I choose, again and again: “Moses was 80 and you did amazing stuff with him. Sarai was past child-bearing age and You worked a miracle with her. I’m keeping my promise. I trust You to keep Yours. I won’t give up on giving You the chance to blow my mind.”

The Eleventh Hour – Jars of Clay

Trace the shape of my heart
Til it becomes more familiar to Your eyes.
I’ve been lost without You, cold without Your love
It’s taken days and nights to make me realize

Rescue me from waiting on this line
I won’t give up on giving You the chance to blow my mind
Let the eleventh hour quickly pass me by
I’ll find You when I think I’m out of time

Take the place of my heart
Til I become a stranger to my life
I’ve been down without You, wrong without Your love
In time will I be what You’re thinking of?

I’ve been wrong without you, cold without your love
In time will I be what you’re thinking of?
