solder giving ukulele to child
Purim in Israel, Friends of Zion museum. One of the workers dressed as a British soldier in honor of Orde Wingate, a Zionist captain in the British Mandate Army. This worker said he thought a ukulele was more appropriate for the day than a gun.

Ever feel like God might have dumped you?

Yeah, yeah, I know the Sunday School answer. “He will never leave or forsake us.” But, even though my head knows that, my heart has seasons when it has a hard time buying in. Know what I mean?

When things just don’t seem to go right, and you pray and it appears like nothing happens, and you feel like maybe you’re on your own …

I’ve learned from past experience that those are the seasons when our faith grows the most – those times when everything we see/hear/feel/etc. in our daily lives seems to dispute what we know God said, and we choose to believe and act according to His Word anyway. Those seasons are really a privilege. It isn’t that often in life we have the opportunity to act solely on faith, with no backup plan.

They never feel like a privilege, though.

Barlow Girl wrote this song. It helps to know others have been there, and just maybe you’re not delusional after all.

I Believe in Love – Barlow Girl

How long will my prayer seem unanswered?
Is there still faith in me to reach the end?
I’m feeling doubt, I’m losing faith
But giving up would cost me everything

So I’ll stand in the pain and the silence
And I’ll speak to the dark night

I believe in the sun
Even when it’s not shining
I believe in love
Even when I don’t feel it
And I believe in God
Even when He is silent
And I, I believe

Though I can’t see my story’s ending
That doesn’t mean the dark night has no end
It’s only here that I find faith
And learn to trust the One who writes my days

So I’ll stand in the pain and the silence
And I’ll speak to the dark night

I believe in the sun
Even when it’s not shining
I believe in love
Even when I don’t feel it
And I believe in God
Even when He is silent

And I

No dark can consume light
No death greater than this life
We are not forgotten
Hope is found when we say

Even when He is silent

I believe in the sun
Even when it’s not shining
I believe in love
Even when I don’t feel it
And I believe in God
Even when He is silent
And I, I believe
